    This work explores the psychology of literary translingualism - writing in a language other than one's native tongue - by examining the works of two authors who, forced into exile by the rise of Nazism, chose English as their language of artistic expression. The author argues that translingualism leads to a psychic split and proposes these authors as representative models of translingualism, which is expressed as loss and fragmentation in Lind's case and opportunity and mediation in Heym's
