    Marcel Proust besitzt eine ganz besondere Beziehung zu Dienstboten; gleiches trifft auf das Erzähler-Ich Marcel im Werk A la recherche du temps perdu zu. Die vorliegende Arbeit spürt der Rolle und Funktion des Dienstmädchens Françoise im Text der Recherche nach. Die Studie offenbart dabei Françoise als zentrale Figur, über deren Untersuchung ins Kunstverständnis des Erzählers vorgedrungen werden kann. Neben einer umfassenden Darstellung des literargeschichtlichen Kontextes eröffnet sie über motivwissenschaftliche Vergleiche mit Texten von Molière, Marivaux, Balzac, Flaubert, Goncourt, Zola und Maupassant auch intertextuelle Lesarten und gibt Aufschlüsse über das Verhältnis Prousts zu diesen Autoren. Von der Autorin liegt bereits ein Beitrag zur Figur der Françoise vor, der im Mitteilungsorgan der Marcel Proust Gesellschaft PROUSTIANA (Bd. XXII, 1. Aufl. 2003) im Insel-Verlag erschienen ist.

    Zwar hatte Loos seinen Feldzug gegen das Ornament schon um 1900 begonnen, doch entwickelte keiner seiner scharfzüngig formulierten Essays eine größere Sprengkraft als der 1908 erschienene Aufsatz "Ornament und Verbrechen", dessen Hauptthesen er zugleich erfolgreich in wirkungsvollen Vorträgen popularisierte. Er wandte sich darin gegen den historistischen Fassadenstil der Wiener Ringstraßenästhetik und gegen die Formensprache sezessionistischer Strömungen, propagierte eine an Zweckmäßigkeit und Wirtschaftlichkeit orientierte Baukunst und verteufelte die seiner Meinung nach überflüssige Dekorationswut, die aus der Verbindung zwischen Kunst und Kunsthandwerk im Gefolge der Arts-and-Craft-Bewegung hervorgegangen war. Trotz oder wegen der kontroversen zeitgenössischen Aufnahme hatten die kämpferischen Thesen eine vielfältige Wirkungsgeschichte. Sie beeinflussten nicht nur nachhaltig die architektonische Praxis bei der Herausbildung des internationalen Funktionalismus, sondern auch puristische und elementaristische Strömungen in der bildenden Kunst sowie allgemeine ästhetische Theorien und hinterließen bis ins 21. Jahrhundert hinein Reflexe in literarischen Texten. The architect Adolf Loos (1870-1933), born in Brno/Brünn, described the ornament in architecture as a both ethically and aesthetically vile and reprehensible crime and chose literary ambitious types of texts for his struggle against decoration. The often violating formulations he used to express his artistic views in public provoked radical replies and led as far as to usage of physical violence. Although this rhetorical rigorism did not lead to a consequent architectural elementarism he had an enormous impact not only on Austrian, German and Czechoslovak architecture but also on literature and literary theory. The paper examines the types and functions of verbal violence in the theoretical discourse and looks upon its effects in architectural practice as well as upon its intermediate relationships to literature.

    Zwar hatte Loos seinen Feldzug gegen das Ornament schon um 1900 begonnen, doch entwickelte keiner seiner scharfzüngig formulierten Essays eine größere Sprengkraft als der 1908 erschienene Aufsatz "Ornament und Verbrechen", dessen Hauptthesen er zugleich erfolgreich in wirkungsvollen Vorträgen popularisierte. Er wandte sich darin gegen den historistischen Fassadenstil der Wiener Ringstraßenästhetik und gegen die Formensprache sezessionistischer Strömungen, propagierte eine an Zweckmäßigkeit und Wirtschaftlichkeit orientierte Baukunst und verteufelte die seiner Meinung nach überflüssige Dekorationswut, die aus der Verbindung zwischen Kunst und Kunsthandwerk im Gefolge der Arts-and-Craft-Bewegung hervorgegangen war. Trotz oder wegen der kontroversen zeitgenössischen Aufnahme hatten die kämpferischen Thesen eine vielfältige Wirkungsgeschichte. Sie beeinflussten nicht nur nachhaltig die architektonische Praxis bei der Herausbildung des internationalen Funktionalismus, sondern auch puristische und elementaristische Strömungen in der bildenden Kunst sowie allgemeine ästhetische Theorien und hinterließen bis ins 21. Jahrhundert hinein Reflexe in literarischen Texten. ; The architect Adolf Loos (1870-1933), born in Brno/Brünn, described the ornament in architecture as a both ethically and aesthetically vile and reprehensible crime and chose literary ambitious types of texts for his struggle against decoration. The often violating formulations he used to express his artistic views in public provoked radical replies and led as far as to usage of physical violence. Although this rhetorical rigorism did not lead to a consequent architectural elementarism he had an enormous impact not only on Austrian, German and Czechoslovak architecture but also on literature and literary theory. The paper examines the types and functions of verbal violence in the theoretical discourse and looks upon its effects in architectural practice as well as upon its intermediate relationships to literature.
