    Séduits par une démarche qui va à contre-courant des idées reçues et de l'historiographie « à l'ancienne », les universitaires espagnols et français ici réunis entendent montrer que la pluralité culturelle de l'Espagne contemporaine a été nourrie par d'abondants emprunts à l'étranger, à la France notamment. On sait que cette diversité a été dissimulée ou niée sous le franquisme, puis réhabilitée sous la jeune démocratie. Tel courant littéraire, telle école picturale, telle chanson venus d'ailleurs ont contribué à façonner du XVIIIe siècle à nos jours une identité culturelle espagnole. Celle-ci peut donc être vue comme un amalgame ou un creuset. Son caractère éventuellement hétéroclite n'autorise à parler ni d'une altération, ni moins encore d'une désagrégation de l'hispanité. Le phénomène de brassage et la réalité du métissage pourraient bien expliquer, contre toute attente, la richesse et la vitalité de la culture espagnole, aujourd'hui comme hier.
