    Concepts of rhythm that shape how literary scholars approach verse to this day crystallized in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in poetological and aesthetic discourse and in literary experiments with meter. Based on the analysis of verse texts, this study explores the theoretical potential contained within the meter. Rhythmuskonzepte, die den literaturwissenschaftlichen Umgang mit versifizierten Texten bis heute prägen, wurden im späten 18. und frühen 19. Jahrhundert nicht nur im poetologischen und ästhetischen Diskurs formuliert, sondern ebenso in literarischen Experimenten mit dem Versmaß. Versifizierte Texte von Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, Friedrich Hölderlin, Novalis, Ludwig Tieck und Johann Wolfgang Goethe werden auf die Rhythmusvorstellungen hin untersucht, die sich in der Auseinandersetzung mit metrischen Formen ausbildeten. Rhythmus geht daraus als eine Figur hervor, an der Kernfragen des poetologischen Diskurses um 1800 – die Gesetze literarischer Form, das Verhältnis von Poesie und Prosa, die Ausdifferenzierung der Gattungen – verhandelt werden. Das Begriffsfeld von Rhythmus, Metrum und Takt wird in den exemplarischen Analysen je nach Kontext differenziert. Dadurch zeigt sich, dass die literarischen Experimente mit dem Versmaß um 1800 die Grundlage bilden nicht nur für eine Verabsolutierung des Rhythmus in der Moderne, sondern auch für eine Re-Konzeption der Metrik für die moderne Literatur.

    A theory of prose does not exist yet. This volume aims to free prose from its invisibility as a medium for forms or genres devoid of characteristics. It redefines prose as a structure that works in latency, as a mysterious movement, but above all as poetic self-reference. These contributions combine this interest with in-depth exegeses on texts by Joyce, Mayröcker, Wühr, Lentz, and others. Eine Theorie der Prosa existiert nicht, als interpretationsleitender Terminus wird ›Prosa‹ im begrifflichen Register der Literaturwissenschaften kaum benutzt. Der vorliegende Band folgt dem Leitgedanken, Prosa aus der Unsichtbarkeit, nur eigenschaftsloses Medium für Formen oder Gattungen zu sein, zu befreien. Als in der Latenz arbeitende literarische Struktur, als Rätselbewegung in den Texten, vor allem aber als poetische Selbstreferenz wird der Prosabegriff neuen Bestimmungen zugeführt. Die Aufsätze dieses Bandes verbinden dieses theoretische Interesse mit vertiefenden Exegesen zu Texten von James Joyce, Friedrike Mayröcker, Paul Wühr, Michael Lentz und anderen.

    Die heutige selbstverständliche Automobilität wird durch die Klimakrise und die sich abzeichnende Verkehrswende ebenso infrage gestellt wie durch die Digitalisierung. Ausgehend von diesem kulturgeschichtlichen Wendepunkt suchen die Autorinnen und Autoren kulturelle Imaginationen des Autos zwischen nostalgischer Glorifizierung und auratisiertem Zukunftsversprechen. Im Zentrum stehen verschiedene Formen von Automobilität und ihre Grenzen, die in literarischen und filmischen Inszenierungen von Unfällen besonders drastisch sichtbar werden. Am Beispiel verschiedener Fahrzeugtypen lassen sich die Wege des Autos in die Moderne und aus ihr heraus verfolgen. Im Vergleich zwischen Deutschland und den USA werden kulturelle und nationale Unterschiede im Umgang mit dem Auto erkennbar. Anhand literarischer und filmischer Beispiele wird dargestellt, wie der Innenraum des Autos zu einem Ort der sozialen Bedeutungsstiftung und der medialen und technischen Reflexion werden kann.

    By the end of the 18th century, notions of "forces of nature" (Naturkräfte) were increasingly discussed across disciplinary bounds: attraction and repulsion, vital forces and electric fluids, formative drives and biological organisms were examined as forces linked to 'natural' processes. German Romantic literature, science, and philosophy - from Schelling and Novalis to Günderrode and Hölderlin - pondered interrelated notions of forces considered as dynamic and continually active in nature - forces which, in turn, also appeared to shape human actions, social structures, and cultural developments. This volume explores the points of reference for, approaches to, and afterlives of Romantic conceptions and representations of natural forces at the intersection of natural sciences and cultural imaginaries Um 1800 diskutierte man über Naturkräfte in verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen und künstlerischen Zusammenhängen: Anziehung und Abstoßung, Lebenskräfte und elektrische Ströme, der "Bildungstrieb" und biologische Organismen wurden als Kräfte untersucht, die sich auf "natürliche" Prozesse zurückführen lassen. Literatur, Wissenschaft und Philosophie der deutschsprachigen Romantik von Schelling bis zu Günderrode und Hölderlin arbeiteten sich an Konzepten von Kräften ab, die als dynamisch und in beständiger Tätigkeit begriffen wurden - Kräfte, die auch menschliche Handlungen, soziale Strukturen und kulturelle Entwicklungen einzuschließen schienen. Der Band erkundet Vor- und Darstellungen von Naturkräften in der Romantik an der Schnittstelle von Naturwissenschaft und kulturellen Vorstellungswelten
