University of Bristol Postgraduate Research and Teaching Scholarships

Application deadline
25.03.2022

The University of Bristol has announced a large programme of scholarships and Graduate Teaching Assistantships for PhD research beginning in autumn 2022. This is part of a university-wide investment of £16.8 million in PhD scholarships over the next four years. The studentships are for four years (full-time) or seven years (part-time), covering fees and a maintenance grant in line with UKRI rates. Students classed as international students for fee purposes will receive full funding as the difference between the home and overseas fee rate will be waived.

The GTA element of the scholarship offers a particular opportunity to develop a strong profile as a university-level teacher alongside the PhD research. Students will be expected to devote up to 250 paid hours a year to teaching and teaching-related activities, and will be offered teacher training and mentorship as part of their post.

This year’s competition has a very tight closing date: 25 March 2022, at midday. We welcome enquiries from candidates who have well-developed plans for the PhD and whose proposed research is a good fit to the School of Modern Languages. Details of our PhD programmes, which include programmes in Comparative Literatures and Cultures and in Translation, as well as in German, are in the postgraduate prospectus: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/2022/arts/Information about research in the School of Modern Languages and its constituent departments and subject areas can be found here: https://www.bristol.ac.uk/sml/research/
