Chair of Modern German Literature (W3)

to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.

Your responsibilities

Central tasks of the future holder of the position include research-based consolidation of subject-specific and integrational content in the degree programs in German Studies (BA and MA), Modern German Literature (Studies) (BA and MA), and German for teaching degree programs (LehramtPlus) as well as maintaining and expanding on networking measures with other KU degree programs. Furthermore, it is desirable that the holder of the position contributes to the continuation and re-accreditation of existing interdisciplinary degree programs and the Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s and Master’s program, the program in European Studies (BA and MA), Aisthesis – Culture and Media (BA and MA) and the MA program in InterculturalAd – Intercultural Advertising. Within the teaching practice, the future holder of the position will primarily supervise the teaching degree programs with State Examination (Staatsexamen). The KU expects a strong commitment in connection with the structured doctoral program and the future design and conceptualization of a graduate academy.

In the field of research, tasks will include support of existing or new initiation of subject-specific and interdisciplinary research collaborations. It is further expected that the future holder of the Chair actively contributes to the key topic ‘For a human-centered digital society’ of the multidisciplinary and inter-faculty tenure track professorship program funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In addition, the holder of the position is expected to support and contribute to the University’s internationalization strategy in teaching and research. Already existing international collaborations with Universities in Brazil, France, Italy and the USA shall be expanded and new collaborations shall be developed. The successful candidate should have a very good command of the English language and should be prepared to teach English-language courses.

Your profile

The successful candidate will represent the subject of Modern German Literary Studies in all its aspects ranging from the early modern period to contemporary literature including the integration of literature into larger cultural and discourse-related historical contexts. A comparative orientation and the willingness to collaborate with neighboring philological fields is desirable. Furthermore, skills in cultural studies are also desired for strengthening the Eichstätt research group on cultures of dialog within academic spaces for reflection in connection with cultural and social sciences and/or a cultural or literary-studies perspective on digitalization processes is very welcome. In the interests of strengthening the University’s academic profile, the KU expects candidates to have prior experience and show a continuing commitment when it comes to acquiring peer-reviewed third-party funding.

The requirements for employment shall be governed by Article 7 Bavarian Law on Academic Personnel of Higher Education Institutions (BayHSchPG) and include a completed university degree in German studies/German/(modern) German literary studies, the exceptional ability to conduct academic research, as generally demonstrated by the quality of a doctoral degree in modern German literary studies, as well as the habilitation or an academic achievement comparable to a habilitation in the field of modern German literary studies which may also have been obtained outside the university context or in the context of a junior professorship.

The successful applicant must be no older than 52 years of age at the time of appointment. Exceptions to this rule may be granted in justified cases (see Article 10 para. 3 BayHSchG).

Ihre Aufgaben

Zentrale Aufgaben der künftigen Stelleninhaberin oder des künftigen Stelleninhabers sind die forschungsbasierte Stärkung der fachspezifischen und integrativen Inhalte in den Studiengängen Germanistik (BA und MA), Neuere deutsche Literatur(wissenschaft) (BA und MA), Deutsch auf Lehramt (LehramtPlus) sowie die weiterführende Vernetzung mit anderen Studiengängen der KU. Beiträge zur Weiterführung und Reakkreditierung vorhandener interdisziplinärer Studiengänge sowie den Interdisziplinären Bachelor und Master, Europastudien (BA und MA), Aisthesis – Kultur und Medien (BA und MA) und den MA InterculturalAd – Werbung interkulturell sind erwünscht. In der Lehre sind neben den BA- und MA-Studiengängen insbesondere die Lehramtsstudiengänge mit Staatsexamen zu betreuen. Hohes Engagement im strukturierten Promotionsstudium und bei der künftigen Gestaltung einer Graduiertenakademie wird erwartet.

Im Bereich der Forschung sollen die laufenden disziplinären und interdisziplinären Forschungskooperationen unterstützt oder neue initiiert werden. Es wird erwartet, dass sich die künftige Lehrstuhlinhaberin/der künftige Lehrstuhlinhaber am Schwerpunktthema - Für eine am Menschen orientierte digitale Gesellschaft - der fach- und fakultätsübergreifenden BMBF-Tenure-Track-Professuren beteiligt. Darüber hinaus soll zur Internationalisierung in Lehre und Forschung beigetragen werden. Bereits bestehende internationale Kooperationen mit Universitäten in Brasilien, Frankreich, Italien und den USA sollen ausgebaut und neue entwickelt werden. Sehr gute englische Sprachkenntnisse sowie die Bereitschaft zur Übernahme englischsprachiger Lehrveranstaltungen werden erwartet.

Ihr Profil

Die Bewerberinnen und Bewerber sollen das Fach Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft in seiner ganzen Breite von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zur Gegenwartsliteratur und unter Einbeziehung der Literatur in größere kultur - und diskursgeschichtliche Zusammenhänge vertreten. Erwünscht sind eine komparatistische Ausrichtung und die Bereitschaft zur Zusammenarbeit mit den Nachbarphilologien. Ferner sind kulturwissenschaftliche Kompetenzen zur Stärkung des Eichstätter Forschungskollegs „Dialogkulturen Wissenschaftliche Reflexionsräume für Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften“ und/oder eine kultur- und literaturwissenschaftliche Perspektive auf Digitalisierungsprozesse willkommen. Zur Stärkung des wissenschaftlichen Profils werden Erfahrungen und ein fortgesetztes Engagement bei der Einwerbung begutachteter Drittmittel erwartet.

Die Einstellungsvoraussetzungen richten sich nach Art. 7 BayHSchPG und beinhalten ein abgeschlossenes Hochschulstudium in Germanistik/Deutsch/(Neuerer) deutscher Literaturwissenschaft, die besondere Befähigung zu wissenschaftlicher Arbeit, die in der Regel durch die Qualität einer Promotion in Neuerer deutscher Literaturwissenschaft nachgewiesen wird, sowie die Habilitation oder einer Habilitation gleichwertige wissenschaftliche Leistungen im Fach Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft, die auch außerhalb des Hochschulbereichs oder im Rahmen einer Juniorprofessur erbracht sein können.

Zum Zeitpunkt der Ernennung darf die Bewerberin oder der Bewerber das 52. Lebensjahr noch nicht vollendet haben. In begründeten Fällen können hiervon Ausnahmen zugelassen werden (vgl.  Art. 10 Abs. 3 BayHSchPG).

Die KU misst einer intensiven Betreuung der Studierenden einen hohen Stellenwert bei und erwartet deshalb von den Lehrenden eine ausgeprägte Präsenz an der Universität.
