Verflochtene Exile / Entangled Exile | Hamburg
Exilliteratur ist im deutschen Sprachraum und darüber hinaus offensichtlich kein Epochenbegriff mehr: Während unter dem Eindruck aktueller Krisen und der mit ihnen verbundenen Fluchtbewegungen und Exilierungen auch das Interesse für das historische Exil aus den vom Nationalsozialismus kontrollierten Gebieten 1933-1945 sowie dessen auch literarischen Spuren wieder merklich zugenommen hat, etabliert sich in zahlreichen Publikationen, Veranstaltungen und Forschungen zu gegenwärtigen Exilen zugleich ein ganz neues Feld. Der Frage, ob bzw. wie diese mit unterschiedlichen historischen und politischen Verhältnissen verbundenen und auf verschiedene Schauplätze verweisenden Phänomene miteinander verknüpft sind, lässt sich auf unterschiedliche Weise nachgehen. Entangled Histories und multidirektionale Erinnerung sind zwei auch in diesem Zusammenhang aktuell diskutierte Konzepte.
Aus literaturwissenschaftlicher Sicht ist bemerkenswert, dass Erzähltexte, Essays, Gedichte oder Theaterinszenierungen, die Erfahrungen und Konzeptualisierungen von Exil verhandeln, selbst solche Verknüpfungen vielfach herstellen. Vor allem sind es Verfahren der Intertextualität, die Exiltexte aus unterschiedlichen Zeiten, Kultur- und Sprachräumen nutzen, um aufeinander Bezug zu nehmen und so neue Möglichkeiten der Verortung und der Zugehörigkeit jenseits national-kulturell bestimmter Rahmungen und Zugehörigkeiten zu schaffen.
Erste Einzelstudien und Versuche einer komparatistischen Betrachtung des Phänomens als Signatur einer transnationalen Exilliteratur, die als solche erst neu zu bestimmen ist, deuten auf ein produktives umfangreiches Forschungsfeld. Die Konferenz „Verflochtene Exile“ will zu einer Ausdifferenzierung und Systematisierung dieses Feldes beitragen, wobei Leitkonzepte wie Intertextualität, Transnationalität sowie Verflochtene Erinnerung strukturierende Funktion haben sollen. ‘Exile literature’ cannot be confined to single literary periods. In German, the migrants and refugees of the present day have heightened both popular and critical interest in the exiles from Nazism between 1933 and 1945 and in their writing, but at the same time, a new and distinctive field of research, focused on contemporary forms of exile, has emerged. The links between exile texts across different places and historical circumstances, which is the focus of this conference, have begun to be examined in various ways: two current, productive approaches have been the concepts of entangled history and of multidirectional memory.
These links do not have to be ‘made’ by literary scholarship. Narrative texts, essays, poems and theatre productions about exile frequently make them themselves. Exile writers across times, cultures and languages have referred to each other and thus created a sense of localisation and belonging which extends beyond nationally determined cultures. They do this by explicit or implicit quotation of earlier exile texts, by referring to named authors, or by sharing common topoi, narrative processes or formal experiments.
First attempts to examine the phenomenon indicate an extensive and productive field of research: they suggest that ‘interexile’ is a signature component of transnational exile literature and a key to new definitions of the genre. The conference "Entangled Exile" aims to deepen the field, structured by concepts including intertextuality, transnationality and entangled memory. [for more details see attached CfP]
