    A focus on methods can currently be observed in all subfields of linguistics. Rarely, however, is a perspective taken that integrates these individual sub-areas. The book brings together the current discussion of methods and assembles contributions that move along the spectrum of ethnography, mixed methods, and digital humanities and are framed by method(olog)ic reflections that the contributors have undertaken together In allen Teilbereichen der Linguistik ist derzeit ein Fokus auf Methoden zu beobachten. Selten wird jedoch eine diese einzelnen Teilbereiche integrierende Perspektive auf Methoden und v.a. auch auf Methodologie eingenommen. Der Band unternimmt vor diesem Hintergrund den Versuch, die aktuellen Diskussionen um die Methodik der Linguistik, die sich aus den unterschiedlichen Methodeninnovationen der letzten Jahrzehnte ergaben, zu bündeln. Entwicklungen wie die verstärkte Software- und Datenorientierung, die methodische Vielfalt in Projektkooperationen oder der Trend zu ethnographischen Ansätzen werden in einer Reihe methodisch sehr unterschiedlicher Studien reflektiert. Sie haben jedoch alle gemein, dass sie auf ihre Weise traditionelle Grenzen linguistischer Methodik überschreiten; mögen diese intra- oder interdisziplinärer Natur sein. Rahmende Beiträge betten diese Studien in einen Diskussionszusammenhang ein, der für eine methodologische Reintegration der linguistischen Teildisziplinen plädiert. Insofern will der Band ein Anstoß sein. Einen ersten Versuch einer solchermaßen integrierenden Diskussion dokumentiert der Band mit Respondenzen auf dieses Plädoyer einerseits und andererseits mit zwölf zusammenführenden Thesen zur aktuellen Lage der linguistischen Methodendiskussion

    Este volumen es una contribución al panorama de los estudios de historiografía lingüística española desde la perspectiva de las humanidades digitales. A lo largo de diferentes capítulos, se da cuenta de diferentes proyectos planteados como herramientas o recursos digitales de referencia en el área que, además, se constituyen en sí mismos como herramientas metahistoriográficas. ‹br/›La presentación y descripción de estas investigaciones permite reflexionar acerca de los nuevos retos que plantea la transformación digital en las formas de investigar y en las estructuras académicas. El objetivo es, por tanto, superar los límites del área dando también espacio a los retos y a las reflexiones técnicas, científicas y académicas que los proyectos de este tipo plantean hoy a la investigación en humanidades, así como ofrecer diferentes ejemplos de la intersección entre tal investigación y el mundo digital, y reflexionar acerca de la producción y distribución de conocimiento en un área científica especializada como la historiografía lingüística hispánica.‹br/›‹br/›

However, this book also presents a warning: without help from the humanities, data science can distort the past and lead to perilous errors. The book opens with a rogue's gallery of errors, then tours the ground-breaking analyses that have resulted from collaborations between humanists and data scientists. Jo Guldi explores how text mining can give a glimpse of the changing history of the past - for example, how quickly Americans forgot the history of slavery. Textual data can even prove who was responsible in Congress for silencing environmentalism over recent decades.     Through a multidisciplinary collection of case studies, this book explores the effects of the digital age on medieval and early modern studies.Divided into five parts, the book examines how people, medieval and modern, engage with medieval media and technology through an exploration of the theory underpinning audience interactions with historical materials in the past and the real-world engagement of a twenty-first century audience with medieval and early modern studies through the multimodal lens of a vast digital landscape. Each case study reveals the diversity of medieval media and technology and challenges readers to consider new types of literacy competencies as scholarly, rigorous methods of engaging in pre-modern investigations of materiality. Essays in the first section engage in the examination of medieval media, mediation, and technology from a theoretical framework, while the second section explores how digitization, smart technologies, digital mapping, and the internet have shaped medieval and early modern studies today.The book will be of interest to students in undergraduate or graduate intermediate or advanced courses as well as scholars, in medieval studies, art history, architectural history, medieval history, literary history, and religious history.
