First staged by the RSC at the Donmar Warehouse in 1981, 'Good' was probably Taylor's most successful play. It portrays the liberal German professor Halder who becomes involved with the Third Reich war machine and Auschwitz through moral cowardice and subtle corruption. Halder, however, continues to see himself as a 'good man' even as he is drawn further and further into Hitler's nightmare.

Written for Live Theatre in 1977, this bitter-sweet domestic comedy is set in the Newcastle of 30 years or so before that, from the day war broke out to VE Day, and follows the fortunes of the Stott family from Walker. It is firmly rooted in working class life and values, with the somewhat ambiguous position of women in a society which was firmly patriarchal but also, in the North Eastern working class, thoroughly matriarchal.
