Does partisan perception shape the flow of international capital? We provide evidence from two settings, syndicated corporate loans and equity mutual funds, to show that ideological alignment with foreign governments affects the cross-border capital allocation by U.S. institutional investors. Moreover, we find that ideological alignment with foreign countries also affects investments of non-U.S. investors and can explain patterns in bilateral FDI flows. Our empirical strategy ensures that direct economic effects of foreign elections or bilateral ties between countries are not driving the result. Combined, our findings imply that partisan perception is a global phenomenon and its economic effects transcend national borders

We compare the findings of central bank researchers and academic economists regarding the macroeconomic effects of quantitative easing (QE). We find that central bank papers find QE to be more effective than academic papers do. Central bank papers report larger effects of QE on output and in ation. They also report QE effects on output that are more significant, both statistically and economically, and they use more positive language in the abstract. Central bank researchers who report larger QE effects on output experience more favorable career outcomes. A survey of central banks reveals substantial involvement of bank management in research production.

Executive teams in U.S. firms are becoming increasingly partisan. We establish this new fact using political affiliations from voter registration records for top executives of S&P 1500 firms between 2008 and 2020. The new fact is explained by both an increasing share of Republican executives and increased assortative matching by executives on political affiliation. Departures of politically misaligned executives are value-destroying for shareholders, implying the increasing political polarization of corporate America may not be in the financial interest of shareholders

"This unique collection of essays explores medieval and early modern Troilus-texts from Chaucer to Shakespeare, looking at the powerful potential of emotions to shape and critique complex notions of temporality and textuality. The contributors show how medieval and early modern fictions of Troy use love (and other emotions generated and absorbed by love) as a means of approaching the past and the problem of tradition. Because of the long textual history to which they self-consciously look back, fictions of the Troilus and Criseyde/Cresseid/Cressida-tradition cannot avoid reflecting on the tradition from which they derive and the question of literary tradition itself. As they do so, these texts highlight both the affective nature of temporality and the ability of affect to serve as a prism through which tradition itself can be subjected to critical scrutiny. By focusing on a specific textual lineage that bridges the medieval/early modern divide this collection participates in the burgeoning exchange between medievalists and early modernists and seeks to generate a truly dialogic encounter between the periods. The collection brings together a number of highly respected scholars from both medieval and early modern studies, many of whom have, in recent years, been instrumental in shaping the terms of the ongoing debate on the nature of the medieval/early modern divide. Thus, this volume continues a discussion which has helped to dismantle the rigid notions of chronology and periodisation that have kept medieval and early modern scholarship apart"--Back cover

Fabo, Jančoková, Kempf, and Pástor (2021) show that papers written by central bank researchers find quantitative easing (QE) to be more effective than papers written by academics. Weale and Wieladek (2022) show that a subset of these results lose statistical significance when OLS regressions are replaced by regressions that downweight outliers. We examine those outliers and find no reason to downweight them. Most of them represent estimates from influential central bank papers published in respectable academic journals. For example, among the five papers finding the largest peak effect of QE on output, all five are published in high-quality journals (Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and Applied Economics Letters), and their average number of citations is well over 200. Moreover, we show that these papers have supported policy communication by the world's leading central banks and shaped the public perception of the effectiveness of QE. New evidence based on quantile regressions further supports the results in Fabo et al. (2021).
